Neons!

Yes, I finally got me some motherfrakking neons! I bought 4 recently, and I needed to use them all together, and obviously that had to be a gradient. Also, I'm super sorry about my manky ass cuticles and all right now, I'm trying to hydrate them and get them looking better, but this super hot weather is not helping them in the slightest.
This is not the best gradient ever, and the blue and purple got a bit lost, I don't think my nails are long enough for four colour gradients. I really wanted this neon gradient to be great, and it wasn't even good. But, I want to try to post everything here, to keep track of everything.

When in doubt...

... do a mix 'n match. Pastel, that was my only thought when doing this mani. So I dug out my trusty much used pastels (I need more pastels) and these happened. I quite like them, although I think it's hard to hate something when you have no clear thought on the outcome. I did the reverse stamping decals first and built from those, gradient in my fave pastels, and a glitter that kinda matched, and of course a dino.

Sorry about my super greasy hands in these photos, but as you can clearly seem my hands are in some need of major tlc right now, so I slathered argan oil all over my hands before taking these photos, so they didn't look completely horrible.

The Best Kind of Gradient

What's better than a regular gradient? A taped gradient of course! I mean the are just as simple as a normal gradient and look twice as amazing as a regular one, it's angles and gradients.
Some of the colours blended together better than others, but overall I'm happy with these. I think I might to try a different base colour next time I do these though, as every time I've done taped gradients I've always used this exact colour as my base.

Teal and Pink...

And a dino! Yes, a cute little dino hiding in some chevrons and glitter. What's not to love? I've had this colour scheme in my head for a while because of this Picture Polish glitter polish, so after going through my nail art stuff, (and watching an entire series of Planet Dinosaur on Netflix), I decided on these. I loved the finished result, it's got to be one of the few times nails have come out just as I pictured them in my mind.
The mint polish on my middle nail is amazing, it's actually from Superdrugs own brand makeup B. and I keep meaning to buy more, as it's a wonderful pastel that goes on, in three easy coats. It's a polish that makes an re-appearance every summer and I never regret it. The little pink dino, is actually the silver ones that I painted pink, to match the rest of my nails. Best idea ever I now know I can paint my embellishments any colour!

Jewels... Kinda

Jewels was the insta challenge prompt, and the only idea I had for that was a diamond done in sparkly silver... I know I bet you've never seen those nails before. So I thought about it some more and came up with these, and I will admit I really pleased with (most) of them. I actually only came up with these because I found me old ds and spent an entire day doing nothing but playing Pokemon last week. Like a proper adult.
I really need to work on thinking about the whole placement thing, as I started off doing them as I wanted, and the the ring and pinkie they didn't really make it onto my nails, but as the Thunder Badge took about 90358 tries to do, I was already freaking out that these would fail, so I didn't redo any other nails.

Dino Stamping

I love dinosaurs, and I saw this stamping plate from Messy Mansion on Rainbow Connection (although they don't seem to have it anymore...) and I immediately knew I needed it in my life. I mean it's got amazing images on it, fossilised dinosaurs, aswell as little silhouettes. and prehistoric fauna. Plus the Jurassic World is out now and it seemed super appropriate to do dino nails, I just can't believe I didn't wear these to the the movie itself though.
I knew the colour scheme I was going to use, as the base colour is called Chromosaurus Hex, it's even got a cute little T-Rex on the name label, as I knew I wanted to use this as a base for this stamping. I used the reverse stamping method for these, as I wanted the bones to be on white and not the base. It took like a billion times longer, but I'm glad I did it.

Leaves

Leaves were originally just the prompt for the insta challenge I'm doing, but I though I could also use this to do nails I did way back (in 2012, according to the blog post). I'm not sure if I've improved nail art wise though, my hand pose has improved I think. Here's the original and the re creation I did.

As you can see my placement skills were much better back then, and something I very much need to work on right now. I'm not sure if I was just trying so hard to re create these that they didn't turn out so great, or if doing leaves on my nails just aren't my thing. I mean my flamingo nails were much more teeny than these and they turned out much better in my opinion.

Summery Gradient

I love pastel gradients, however I don't seem to own many pastel polishes, well I do own a few, but they are all mint green, or baby blue as I always seem to buy those colours. I got out a purple pastel I have, and then found some colour that wouldn't wash it out, and I ended up with these.
Sorry my fingers are weird looking, but in photos were my skin looks like usual, the colours were really washed out. I am so pleased with this gradient, I usually use them as bases for stamping, but I loved this so much I kept them like this.

Squares

Squares, was another instagram challenge prompt, and I had two ideas for them, and I ended up doing both as the first one I did, did not turn out how I pictured them at all. I'll include a photo of the fail at the end of this post for you to mock.
I did these by doing horizontal and vertical lines on my nails with Lychee, the nude colour, and then going in with my other colours one colour at a time and filling in the lines I had already done. I chose the colour scheme based on the neon glitter I had, as I was desperate to use it.

Barry M Lychee
NYC Lexington Yellow
China Glaze Designer Satin

And now for the nail fail! These were my first idea, as I've done squares similar to the above before, so I wanted to try stamping, with negative space in the middle. So I stamped over my bare nail (well over my base coat anyway) and used my usually cleaning up brush to add acetone to the centre of my nails.  It did not go well...

Cadillacquer Valar Morghulis

A super quick swatch post today, as I just loved this polish and I had to put it on my nails as soon as it came through my mail box. It's super holographic, although my camera completely ignored that, so they only look a little holo here. It's more purple in real life, and there's also some flakies that are a tad lighter than the base colour in the polish aswell. I've used two coats, and HK Girl top coat for the swatch here.

Another Cling Film Mani

Yup, I loved wearing the last one I did, so I got out some polishes and splodged them in my nail with cling film. I went with a differnt colour scheme this time, blue and purple. I don't love them as much as my last ones, but I still love the effect and ease of doing these nails.
I did use three colours, honest, but only two seen to be able to be seen on the nail. I always think that cling film nails, kinda look like galaxy nails, so I think at some point I might try to do galaxy nails like this, as I'm not good at them with a sponge.

Flamingos!

These are for the second prompt on the #clairestelle8june challenge I'm doing on instagram, I did do the first one, but I didn't love them so I'm not gonna post them here. However, I do love these, and I want to wear them forever! The flamingos show up much more in real life, but as the base was super sparkly my camera freaked out about it. It's so sparkly, and amazing I'm just so glad I have a peel off base coat, or I would never use glitter as a full mani like thi.
I'm so proud of how these turned out, as whenever I usually try to do small things all over my nails, I mess it up completely. I even managed to get them looking like flamingos on my left hand *pulls shocked face* I do need to work on placement though, as I had a few issues with where I placed them. Also the base Cosmic Girl, is an amazing full coverage glitter, and what you see here is only two coats, seriously two!

Lots of Freehand

Today's nails are another inspired by Mr Candiipants. I know, again, but I was stalking through her instagram because I had zero nail ideas once again. I have started a nail challenge though, and when going through the prompts I had ideas for most of them, so hopefully my nail slump is over.
I'm quite proud of how these turned out, as I don't think I've ever tried anything with this many small lines. Although I think the thumb could have been better, as the triangles are a bit too big.

Barry M Guava (mixed with white and black)

Summery Flowers

I was feeling a bit more inspired when it came to doing my nails today, but that is only because I nosed (read; stalked) through MrCandiipants youtube videos. This one seemed super simple, and easy to do, which to be fair it was as I mostly did just use to normal polish brush for them, I just think I need more practise doing nail art that doesn't involve a nail art brush.

The flowers came out a bit bigger than I would have liked, but I think they look cute anyway. I don't know why they all came out upside down, but they did...
What I Used;

Simple Stamping

Yup, just as the title suggests, I wanted to paint my nails, but I wasn't sure what I wanted on them, so I went thought my stamping plates, and got out one with these two lovely images on it, I went with a colour scheme that I've done before but I don't think that has actually made it into photos before.

The stamping polish I used is onr of my first Picture Polishes, Moscow and I love it, it such an amazing colour. A beautiful one coater on it's own, an as you can see here, a wonderfully sparkly stamping polish. Perfection in my eyes.
